Relatinship between Caring of Nurse and Patient Satisfaction with Nursing Care

Abstract
Purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between caring of nurse and patient satisfaction with nursing care. Subjects of this study were 374 adult patients expected to be discharged from 2 medical center. 5 point Likert scale with 27 items was used measuring the caring of nurse and VAS was used measuring the patient satisfaction with nursing care. Data were collected from Mar. 2, 1996 to Apr. 20, 1996, and data were analyzed with SPSS/pc 3.0.

The results of this study were

(1) Average score of the caring of nurses was 94.77 and the patient satisfaction with nursing care was 71.24.

(2) There was significant difference in the score of caring of nurse, but not significant difference in the score of patient satisfaction with nursing care between two medical centers.

(3) There was not significant differences in the scores of caring of nurse by general characteristics of the subjects, but significant differences in the scores of patient satisfaction with nursing care by some characteristics of the subjects, such as the experience of hospitalization in the same medical center and the existence of care givers during the hospitalization.

(4) There was significant correlation between the score of caring of nurse and the score of patient satisfaction with nursing care(r=.7186).

(5) The score of the patient satisfaction with nursing care was significantly explained 51.6% only by the score of the caring of nurse.
